NJCCIC Data Breach Notification

Original Release Date: 6/26/2020

Summary

Oracle’s BlueKai, a cloud-based web tracking data platform used by marketers to target consumers, suffered an extensive data breach exposing billions of user records. The breach occurred due to an unsecured server that was not password-protected. BlueKai uses various tracking technology such as website cookies to track a user’s internet activity and has amassed one of the largest caches of harvested data. Compromised data includes various identifying information, such as names, physical addresses, email addresses, and web browsing activity. The breach was identified by an independent researcher and disclosed to Oracle; however, at the time of this writing, it is unknown who else may have accessed the database while it was exposed.
