NJCCIC Data Breach Notification

Summary

The Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH) has disclosed that their public-data tool containing at least 23,000 patients’ sensitive information had been publicly exposed. The tool was built to monitor and track new cases of both Hepatitis B and C as part of the PDPH opioids initiative. The breach was discovered October 11, 2019 by an Inquirer reporter and reported to PDPH, which performed corrective action immediately upon notification. The exposed data is comprised of new cases reported between 2013 and 2018 and consists of names, gender, addresses, dates of birth, test results, and, in some cases, social security numbers.
